This report summarizes activities that occurred during Year 3 (1 July 2018 to 31 March 2019) as part of the Coastal Dune Community Stewardship Project (SC 15-110). The Coastal Dune Community Stewardship Project was awarded through the State Coastal Conservancy’s Explore the Coast Grant Program in 2016.
Over the course of Year 3, 208 volunteers participated in 9 community-based restoration events, contributing 624 hours and removing 381 bags of invasive vegetation at the LAX Dunes Preserve. Additional restoration activities took place with the LA Conservation Corps (LACC) and interns from Loyola Marymount University’s Coastal Research Institute (CRI). TBF staff and interns also conducted vegetation monitoring and mapping of the approximately 48-acre northern LAX Dune area.
