Guns, Horse Saddle, Among Tons of Trash Collected on Coastal Cleanup Day

Los Angeles County’s beaches, harbors, rivers and parkways turned up discarded guns, an errant manhole cover and four trash-entangled octopi, among other debris, during this year’s Coastal Cleanup Day event.

The three-hour, Saturday morning cleaning frenzy drew more than 10,000 volunteers countywide who cleared about 26,000 pounds of trash, according to officials from Heal the Bay. The environmental organization, which also holds monthly beach cleanups, managed 45 Coastal Cleanup Day sites from the L.A. River’s Tujunga Wash in the San Fernando Valley to the Long Beach coast…
